Sustainability Statement
At Quirky Weddings, we recognise that every event generates an environmental footprint, and we are committed to minimising ours through practical, measurable actions. As the UK’s largest inclusive and alternative wedding fair, we take responsibility for ensuring that our events are exciting, creative and environmentally conscious by design.
Our sustainability framework spans venue selection, event operations, supplier expectations and visitor engagement, with a strong focus on eliminating unnecessary waste.

Our Sustainability Commitments
1. Choosing Sustainable Venues
We intentionally select venues that can support low-impact event operations. Our criteria include:
-
Effective recycling and waste-management systems
-
Energy-efficient heating, cooling and lighting
-
Good public-transport accessibility where possible
-
Existing venue-level sustainability policies
-
Responsible catering partners and water-efficient facilities
This ensures that each event is grounded in a venue already committed to improvement.

2. Minimising Waste at Our Events
We actively reduce waste and unnecessary materials across the entire event lifecycle.
No Flyer Policy for Goody Bags
A core part of our sustainability strategy is our strict no-paper-flyers rule. Exhibitors are not permitted to place traditional flyers or non-usable promotional paper in visitor goody bags.
Instead, items must be one of the following:
-
A genuinely usable item (e.g., sample, product, small practical keepsake)
-
A discount voucher or offer that provides clear, tangible value to visitors
This ensures goody bags are purposeful rather than disposable, reducing paper waste and preventing hundreds of unnecessary items from going straight to landfill.
Additional waste-reduction measures:
-
Fully paperless ticketing and exhibitor onboarding
-
Encouraging reusable stand materials such as modular signage and non-disposable décor
-
Discouraging single-use plastic giveaways
-
Working with venues to ensure clearly marked recycling points are in place
-
Encouraging exhibitors to use QR codes and digital brochures instead of printed literature
3. Sustainable Supplier Expectations
We encourage our Approved Quirky Wedding Suppliers to integrate sustainability into their own operations wherever feasible. This may include:
-
Ethical and responsibly sourced materials
-
Low-waste product or service options
-
Reuse, hire or digital-first alternatives
-
Reduced packaging and eco-friendly shipping
-
Transparent sustainability information
We recognise that our exhibitors range from micro-businesses to established brands, so our focus is on meaningful progress over perfection - while maintaining clear expectations.
4. Supporting Low-Impact Visitor Behaviour
We make it easy for visitors to reduce their environmental impact:
-
Promoting public transport and sustainable travel routes
-
Reducing printed handouts by using QR links and digital directories
-
Encouraging proper recycling and waste separation at the event
-
Using digital communications before, during and after fayres
5. Ethical Event Materials
Where we source signage, displays or branded items, we prioritise:
-
Reusable materials and timeless designs
-
Recyclable or compostable substrates
-
Minimised print runs and digital-first alternatives
-
Responsible, environmentally conscious printing suppliers
We design event materials to be durable and reusable across multiple fairs.
6. Continuous Environmental Improvement
Sustainability is a continual process. We review and refine our approach each year with the goal of:
-
Further reducing waste
-
Improving recycling rates
-
Phasing out remaining single-use materials
-
Increasing exhibitor compliance with sustainable practices
-
Strengthening relationships with greener venues and ethical suppliers
-
Introducing clearer sustainability guidance for future exhibitors
We value feedback from visitors, suppliers and venues and use it to shape our next steps.
